Cultural Activity Program

About the Cultural Activity Program

We offer cultural activities opportunities at the EcoSpanish School as well as around the community.
The goal of our cultural activities is to integrate Spanish language practice while learning art, textile, cooking, horse back riding or enjoying a tour directly from our teachers, coordinator, local and native artisans or leaders. From this method We
provide hands-on experiential education while observing and learning social and cultural
aspects of Guatemalan life.

Sample day of a Cultural Activity:

  • Cultural Activity will be after or before you spanish lesson. (Afternoon or morning)
  • The pay it will be at the Eco Spanish School too. All  supply will included in the workshop.
  • Arrive at EcoSpanish, just a short walk away, or directly to the weaver coop, or depending the coordination.
  • You will learne directly with artesan, weaver, artist, tour guide to create an art project using the materials found on site, or around town depending in the class coordination.
  • if the cultural activity is helgin in a group, please be ontime for start.
  • If the cultural activity is in a workshop, you will be able to take your project home.
  • If is a coffee tour or any othe tour, please always have ready water, and shoes for hike.
  • In case your work project is not dry, please let the artist know to help you for fast dry.
  • if you like to give tip to the artist, weaver, leader, please do it!.
  • Share a skill you possess with the teachers and students at school.
  • Return to your homestay to eat lunch.
  • Return to EcoSpanish for a few hours of Spanish class with one of our local teachers or
  • Explore around San Juan, go for a hike to Cerro de la Cruz, learn how to weave a scarf or make
    natural dyes from plants.
  • Enjoy the lake view, sunset, and sounds of birds in the tule (lake grass used to make straw
    mats)

          Return to your homestay for dinner and family time.

Most of  cultural activities are extrapaid. The Eco Spanish School coordinator will anounce to studentes every monday the activities for the week.

On site at EcoSpanish:

  • Artisanal Coffee processing tour
  • Our Textiles
  • Embroidery Classes by local artist.

Within the community or outside of San Juan:

  • Traditional Cooking
  • Weaving Class
  • Hike the Mayan Nose
  • Mayan Ceremony
  • Traditional Music Class
  • Civil War Speech by a local.
  • Bone Healer, Soil Healer speech by a local.
  • Midewives experiences, work with medicinal plants, herbs, teas, and plants, speech by a midewife.
  • Artisanal Coffee processing Tour
  • Embroidery Classes
  • We are also able to co-ordinate diving ecperince with a local diver.
